About

Winter Media is a Seattle-based production company specializing in  cinematography for commercial, documentary, television, and narrative projects.  Our work is focused on filming content motivated by story, while enhancing the visual medium.

 

From directing, grip and lighting, to post-production and crew coordination, we can provide full-service support or targeted production supplements as needed. We work efficiently within tight schedules and complex logistics, scaling workflows to meet the unique demands of every project.

Production services centered on cinematography, camera, and lighting, built to scale within production scope and workflows.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

Cinematography for productions of all sizes, from single-camera shoots to complex, multi-department productions. Focused on visual continuity and efficiency while navigating fast-paced production constraints across studio, set, and on-location environments.

GRIP & ELECTRIC

G&E support is available as part of a camera package or as a standalone service. Operations are supported by a 1-ton grip package (scalable) and a versatile Aputure LED lighting kit (COBs, Infinibars, Fresnels) designed for fast setups, remote control, and efficient color management on set.

AERIAL & SPECIALTY

Aerial operations are conducted across drone and helicopter platforms, and we provide specialty camera movement including gimbals, vehicle mounts, and jib/dolly systems. All operations are FAA Part 107 certified and fully compliant with current aviation regulations for legal and safe execution.

PRE & POST-PRODUCTION

Technical planning and post-production services are available on a project basis. This includes workflow coordination, storyboarding, and delivery support, as well as editing and color grades, ensuring a cohesive transition from acquisition to final delivery.

CREW & SUPPORT

Production support and crew can be provided across a range of departments. Winter Media scales appropriately to meet project requirements, integrating smoothly into established production teams or helping to build out local units for traveling productions.

COMPLIANCE & INSURANCE

Operations are conducted as a fully insured Washington State LLC. Professional coverage includes production insurance, equipment floaters, and workers’ compensation, alongside FAA-compliant documentation for all aerial cinematography.

Joel Winter

Cinematographer

Joel Winter is a Seattle-based Director of Photography with 17 years of experience in digital media and production. After starting his career in graphic design, editing, and motion graphics, he transitioned into cinematography in 2012. This multidisciplinary background allows him to shoot with a designer’s eye for composition and an editor’s understanding of how a story comes together in the final cut.

His work has involved extensive international travel, navigating the logistics of complex environments across a wide range of schedules and budgets. With capabilities that scale from leading full camera departments to operating as a solo unit or on a skeleton crew. Whether partnering with out-of-town agencies or local teams, his focus remains on creating imagery that serves the mood, the story, and the director’s specific vision.
